OUR STORY

Third Coast Recording Company is the dream that has finally been realized. Bill and Binnie Chrysler partnered with Joe Sturgill to establish a world-class studio right in their hometown, Grand Haven, Michigan. The mission is simple: Help every artist be the best they can be.

Bill has an extremely decorated career in the music industry, spanning over four decades. He has worked with hundreds of artists- John Mayer, Prince, Madonna, Maroon 5, Bob Seger and Paul McCartney, just to name a few. His experience as a live sound engineer, tech, and producer brings a unique voice to the studio. Binnie brings a level of calm organization to each and every client, using her tour management experience to make every process happen as smoothly as possible. They've build a dynamic team to help guide artists through every part of the creative process. In addition to a stellar team, Bill has curated an unmatchable gear selection at Third Coast. The studio boasts one of the most popular recording consoles in the world, vintage gear, cutting edge technology, and instruments designed for recording. Originally established as Redwall North, Bill started a small recording studio in Grand Haven for friends and family while he was still touring with Maroon 5 and John Mayer. Slowly, the dream grew into creating an incredible space where artists from all over the world could come and create in a relaxing environment surrounded by the beauty of West Michigan and the Great Lakes. Bill and Binnie Chrysler purchased the current home of Third Coast Recording Co. in 2015. The building on Washington Ave. had been used as a church, dry cleaners, car dealership, and more. The Chryslers worked with Los Angeles-based studio designer Jay Kaufman to transform that space into a 10,000 square foot world-class recording studio — one with floating floors and quintessential sound dispersion qualities. The building is now home to one of the United State's largest live rooms, two studios, three offices, two lesson rooms, an impressive tech room, comfortable green room, and multi-purpose space.

In addition to being a premier recording space, Third Coast takes pride in hosting community events such as business meet ups, gear swaps, music business education sessions, and live music. In 2019 and 2020, they partnered with the Michigan Music Alliance to host over 20 free workshops for West Michigan artists. Third Coast hosted the first local showcase in 2020 and filmed and recorded fourteen artists in just under two and a half hours.

Third Coast has been the ground zero for several Jammie Award winning and nominated artists and albums, including Full Cord Bluegrass, Earth Radio, Fast Hands Band, Max Lockwood, May Erlewine, The Accidentals, Hannah Rose & the GravesTones, and more.

At Third Coast, it is a priority to celebrate diversity in music and the community by work with all genres and experience levels. In Fall 2019, they recorded and filmed a video that would impact the music scene in West Michigan in a new way. A cover video of "The Chain", originally by Fleetwood Mac, featuring fifteen female vocalists from all over the state went viral. Backed by the studio band, this group has gone onto grown into over 50 female musicians, who are working to highlight women in the music industry in Michigan. There are four videos planned in 2020.

Third Coast Recording Co. is the proud sponsor of the WYCE Jammie Awards, Earthworks Harvest Gathering, Michigan Music Alliance, and many other Michigan music based community organizations.
